It's hard to believe our summer break is right around the corner!
- The last day of school for our kindergarten students will be on Friday, June 6, 2025.
- The last day of school for students in grades 1-11 will be on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
Avonworth School District is proud to host the premiere of Finding Stories of Wonder in the Land of Oz, a student-created film reimagining Dorothy’s journey through innovation, science, and storytelling as part of Remake Learning Days!
Avonworth School District has been featured in Kidsburgh numerous times, highlighting the district’s innovative programs as well as the success of our students, staff and schools.
Avonworth School District enjoyed two lively taiko drumming performances by Peaceful Forest, featuring three of our own students and their father on a journey to complete 1,000 shows across all 50 states.

The Avonworth community gathered on April 22 to celebrate the completion of the AHS/AMS construction project with an open house showcasing the district’s new, state-of-the-art learning spaces.
Third grade students celebrated Women in Healthcare with a special event featuring guest speakers and hands-on activities that explored careers in healthcare.
AES and APC students raised $944 for Emsworth Meals on Wheels during JAM #BeTheKindKid’s Entrepreneur Night by creating and selling their own products.
Six Avonworth students were selected to participate in the 2025 PMEA District 1 Elementary Band Festival, where they performed alongside top young musicians from across the region.

Avonworth Schools celebrated National School Breakfast Week (March 3-7) by offering FREE nutritious breakfasts to all students. The week featured new menu items, prizes, and special giveaways, all while promoting the benefits of a healthy breakfast for student success. Thanks to The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank for their support!

In honor of Black History Month and the Special Olympics, students across the district created a Kindness Chain to promote inclusivity and unity, now displayed in front of the Lopes Lounge as a reminder of the power of kindness.

"Becky Marszalek, a paraprofessional at Avonworth Elementary School in Pittsburgh, is the Pennsylvania State Education Association’s (PSEA) Dolores McCracken Education Support Professional of the Year for the 2024-25 school year.
The announcement came during American Education Week and as schools across the commonwealth prepare to celebrate Education Support Professionals Day on Nov. 20, a day to recognize the hardworking support staff who help meet students’ needs and make our schools run smoothly."
With Thanksgiving approaching, we enter a time of year when weather could impact our school schedule. As we prepare for the possibility of weather-related delays and closings, we want to make sure families are as prepared as possible.
The Avonworth School District is embarking on a Strategic Planning Process, and we are seeking parents/caregivers to participate in this critical process. This strategic plan aims to define a collective vision of success and set goals in priority areas.

Our first “Cultural Connections” lunch was offered on September 30th in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
We'd like to share a few important updates from our food service team at Avonworth.
The Avonworth School District aims to provide an education that is customized to meet the needs of each learner. Part of this process includes creating a comprehensive assessment system to determine if we are accomplishing this goal. Most of the assessments occur in grades K-8 in order to ensure students are developing skills at the right pace in order to be ready for high school and life beyond high school.
The Avonworth School District is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment at all our athletic and extracurricular events. As a reminder, the following policies will be enforced to ensure all spectators at high school football games have a safe and enjoyable experience.
A test of our rapid alert system was sent via email and phone call on Wednesday, August 18 at 1 pm. If you received both the email and the test phone call, then no further action is needed. If you only received one or the other, please update your contact information in Alma.
Safety will always be a top priority for the Avonworth School District. Each summer, we examine our emergency operations plan for the coming year. The district has trained threat assessment teams and a strong working relationship with Ohio Township police and emergency responders. In addition, we practice and refine emergency procedures throughout the year. We share this message to proactively allow families to discuss school safety before the school year.
We hope you’ve had the chance to log into Alma to update your contact information. Parent/caregiver contact information must be up-to-date in Alma to ensure you receive emergency communications from the school district through our rapid response system, School Messenger. As in the past, the district will send email and phone messages for emergency notifications, including weather-related delays/ cancellations and late bus updates, using School Messenger. We will also be adding the ability to receive an SMS (text) message. More information will be sent once this feature is available.

We are excited to welcome several new administrators to Avonworth School District!
Sixth grade teacher, Melissa Costantino-Poruben, was selected as one of 50 delegates of the National Education Association to participate in the 10th International World Congress of Teachers, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
"When administrators from four Pittsburgh-area school systems learned about a California school district’s career-focused curriculum that was exposing students as young as 5 years old to a variety of professions and skill sets, they knew they wanted to bring that model to the East Coast."
"Whenever Principal Mike Hall began a new school year, he’d ask the students at Avonworth Middle School one question: Who in this building is your go-to adult?"
Avonworth students, staff and families celebrated the work they did to create their own Wisdom Corridors throughout the district in June. This special event was held at Heinz History Center. It included activities, food and drinks, and recognition of all the wisdom corridor feature schools, including Avonworth Primary Center, Avonworth Elementary School and Avonworth High School.
Health and free meals are available for children at a site near you. This program is open to all youth ages 18 and under. No cost or sign-up is required.
