This is a reminder that Friday, March 27 is a teacher professional development day. There will be no school for students. The following week (Monday, March 30 - Friday, April 3) is spring break. Students will return to school on Monday, April 6.

Four Avonworth teams competed in the Western PA Regional Odyssey of the Mind Tournament, with two teams advancing to the State Finals.

Second grade and kindergarten students teamed up for a buddy reading of I Need My Monster by Amanda Noll to celebrate Read Across America Week. 

Fifth grade students visited the Patterns of Meaning Exhibition at the Energy Innovation Center, where they created plaster molds, explored positive and negative space, and met the artists behind the work.

Since graduating from Avonworth High School, Alex Osborn (ASD Class of 2018) has been chasing a dream that first took flight in elementary school.

Mr. Ronnie Ziccardi, our elementary school band director, was recognized by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra as a BRAVO! Champions of Music Education awardee, honoring his leadership and the strength of our music program.

Our students shined at the 2026 Elementary Chorus Fest, sharing their love of music and representing our school with pride!

Avonworth third grader Kennedy Kent represented her community on NHL ice after being selected as one of twelve Junior Starters for the Pittsburgh Penguins during their January 15 game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Avonworth Education Support Professionals honored “Super Nolan” with a Trucks for Tots drive, collecting truck donations from across the community and delivering them to the Ohio Township Volunteer Fire Company to brighten the holiday season for children in need.

Congratulations to our recently elected board members! 

Adam Livingston, Jessica Opalko-Pfister and Justin Panuski are all new to the Avonworth School Board. Amy Tokar is a returning board member. All four recently took their oaths, administered by Judge Michele Santicola.

We’re grateful for their commitment to serving our school community.

AES student Hallie Camacho has been cast as Tiny Tim in Pittsburgh CLO’s A Musical Christmas Carol and will perform at the Byham Theater December 13–23, with an additional appearance on Pittsburgh Today Live on Tuesday, December 9 at 9 a.m.

Avonworth Elementary students raised $1,227 for Life Changing Service Dogs for Veterans and presented the donation to visiting veterans and service dog Slugger.

Avonworth Primary Center held a spirited pep rally to cheer on the Lopes football team as they head to the 3A WPIAL Championship.

The Avonworth School District community is invited to take part in Trucks for Tots, a special service project held in loving memory of Nolan Przybysz. Nolan was an Avonworth student known by many for his bright spirit, kind heart, and his absolute love of trucks — a joy he shared with everyone around him.

With Thanksgiving approaching, we enter a time of year when the weather could impact our school schedule. As we prepare for the possibility of weather-related delays and closings, we want to make sure families are as prepared as possible.

Avonworth Elementary celebrated Fall Fest with PTA-hosted classroom parties and creative staff group costumes, including ghosts, Shrek characters, generational sayings, pirates, and a camping theme.

As you may recall from a communication shared in August, TMX Compliance is going out of business. The district previously used TMX to house volunteer clearances.

We are excited to share that a new volunteer system is now in place for the district - Raptor VolunteerSafe.

AES students, along with Mrs. Edwards and Mr. Battistone, presented “Bridging Student Connections” at the 59th Annual NAPSA Conference in Pittsburgh, highlighting how the Bridges program fosters meaningful relationships among students, teachers, and staff.

Avonworth School District has been recognized by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank as a 2025 Child Hunger Hero for its exceptional efforts to support food security and ensure students have access to nutritious meals.

Avonworth School District has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Art Education Association as an Outstanding Visual Arts Community for 2024–25.

The generous support of the Avonworth Fund for Educational Excellence (AFEE) continues to enhance educational opportunities for students and faculty.

Avonworth School Board President John Brandt was honored by PSBA for 10 years of service and Board Member Pat Stewart for 20 years, recognizing their dedication to students, schools, and the community.

Congratulations to Becky Marszalek on being selected as Pennsylvania’s 2026 recipient of the Travelers Insurance Award for Teaching Excellence from the NEA Foundation, honoring her exceptional leadership, teaching excellence, and positive impact on the community.

If you would like to keep copies of your clearances for your records, please log in to your TMX Compliance account and download them prior to this date.

We're thrilled to share that Avonworth’s own Hallie Camacho will be making her professional theater debut as “Young Anna” in Disney’s FROZEN, the Broadway Musical!

Hallie will take the stage at the Benedum Center in downtown Pittsburgh from July 18–27, performing in all local shows except Friday, July 25. After the Pittsburgh run, the production heads out on tour for the rest of the summer.

"On a wintry evening earlier this year, Avonworth School District, home to approximately 2,000 students in Allegheny County, hosted a graduation party. It included the typical pomp — clusters of balloons in school colors, streamers, graduation caps — but the circumstance was wholly unusual. This party feted the class of 2035, an experimental kick-off to a new strategic planning process that engaged students, staff, educators and community members in an exercise to think creatively about the future of learning in the district."
